Gemini gained 400 million monthly active users
Gemini: Google’s new “digital brain” that’s winning millions of users
This year’s Google I/O 2025 stage hid many announcements, but one dominated: the Gemini, Google’s advanced AI assistant, has now reached 400 million monthly active users. That number alone says a lot – not only about the tool’s development, but also about Google’s overall AI strategy.
This significant rise is no coincidence. Google made a bold decision: it replaced Google Assistant on millions of Android devices with Gemini. And that transition seems to have paid off. Users are no longer limited to simple commands, but can now interact in natural language, receive intelligent and efficient responses, and perform complex tasks through a more human, conversational experience.
The integration of Gemini into Android as the default assistant was just the beginning. Today, Google’s artificial intelligence platform is interconnected with key services like Gmail, Google Maps, Drive and of course search. The user can ask Gemini to compose emails, summarize documents, suggest routes or organize information in a way that resembles a real assistant rather than just a voice command executor.
Interestingly, although Google has been criticized for “running behind” OpenAI in the first phase of the AI revolution, today it seems to be building a more fundamental advantage: leveraging its already huge user base. Unlike competitors, Google has the power to integrate AI into products used by billions of people every day.
Gemini is not just a chatbot. It’s at the heart of Google’s new digital strategy. And given upcoming upgrades such as multimodal capabilities (understanding video, audio and video simultaneously) and enterprise solutions, Google seems determined to make Gemini not only users’ primary digital assistant, but also the AI partner of the future.
