Google Globally Activates New AI Mode in Search

The Next Revolution Is Here

Google’s long-awaited “AI Mode” feature, which until now has been exclusively available in the US, is now taking the big step towards the global user, starting in India and soon in all markets – including Greece.

A new chapter in online search

Google is attempting to change the face of everyday search by introducing a series of innovations that take the user experience to another level:

  • Bigger and more complex questions: The new AI Mode can process queries 2-3 times the scope and complexity of traditional searches. This means you can now formulate detailed, complex queries without having to break them down into smaller phrases.

  • Phonetic and multimodal search: The user can search not only by typing, but also by voice commands, as well as by images, utilizing Google Lens. The experience thus becomes more natural, fast and tailored to every need.

  • Availability on Android, iOS and web: AI Mode is already built into the newest versions of the Google app and is available via a special shortcut in the search bar.

How the new AI Mode works

Unlike AI Overviews, AI Mode goes one step further:
The mode is based on the new generation of Gemini 2.5 model and uses the fan-out technique – i.e., the AI breaks your query into sub-questions and performs multiple parallel searches. The results are synthesized into a detailed, “intelligent” answer that is always accompanied by links to the sources used.

What’s more, the new feature allows for continuous interaction: after the first answer, you can ask a follow-up question or delve further into the conversation with the AI.

The next day of the search

With AI Mode, Google is laying the foundation for the next day in online search:

  • More convenience and directness for the user

  • Personalised, targeted responses based on real sources

  • Ability to use multimodal data (text, voice, image)

What does this mean for professionals and businesses?

The improved search experience opens up new paths, but also new challenges. Businesses are now being asked to adapt, making sure their content is more understandable, structured and “visible” not only to humans, but also to the AI systems that will select the most reliable and useful results.
